St Catherine's Hospice > Uncategorized > So many varied ways to support the important work of St Catherine’s

From a Beer and Banger Festival to a Soul and Funk Night, there are lots of fun events lined up to show the people of South Ribble, Preston and Chorley a great time – all whilst supporting the important work of St Catherine’s Hospice.

As well as hosting our own big fundraisers, we’re delighted that so many of our wonderful supporters also come up with new and exciting ways to help raise vital funds for the charity and bring the community together.

A celebrity football match, a Beatles themed evening, and a black tie ball are all in the pipeline, along with the hospice’s own events such as the big St Catherine’s Quiz in Lostock Hall on May 18.

Yellow Day (1)Our Yellow Day Garden Fete is one for the whole family on June 25, which this year will feature a daring firewalk challenge for those who can handle the heat! Lawn games, inflatables, live music and food served by The Mill Outside will add to the fun.

People are now being invited to make dedications in memory of their loved ones, whose names will be written on the hundreds of yellow ribbons which will decorate the grounds of St Catherine’s Park for the occasion.

Registration is also open for our meaningful Moonlight and Memories Walk on July 1 – walk under the stars in memory of your loved ones in our 10-mile or four-mile family-friendly routes.

What’s more, The Mill café and community hub – from which profits are used to help fund the end-of-life care offered by St Catherine’s – is continuing to hold themed evenings on the last Friday of every month, which are incredibly popular.

This month it’s British, with dishes such as potted Morecambe Bay shrimps, and roast Goosnargh chicken. Next month it’s an Italian themed night, followed by Mediterranean in June and seafood in July. (Booking is essential – call 01772 695277 or email themill@stcatherinespark.co.uk).

DSC_2348We’ve also launched our annual car raffle, giving supporters the chance to win a stunning MINI One for a £2 raffle ticket.

As well as relying on the support and generosity of the community to raise funds and awareness of the charity, St Catherine’s is also here for local people and families to offer practical, emotional and spiritual support to anyone who requires it, even if they don’t already have a connection to the hospice.

Regular drop-in sessions are held at the hospice and The Mill in Lostock Hall for anyone in Central Lancashire wishing to attend, from carers’ social and support sessions, to bereavement group meetings and specialist programmes dedicated to people living with conditions such as cancer, Motor Neurone disease, and other life-shortening illnesses.

Our caring, compassionate and professional team of doctors, nurses, counsellors and support workers are on hand to offer advice on pain and symptom management, treatments, and emotional issues such as grief and remembrance.
