Supporters set to gather for Light Up A Life switch-on

LUAL image LEPSupporters will gather at St Catherine’s Hospice next week for one of the charity’s most poignant nights of the year, as the lights are switched on in their Light Up A Life campaign.

The event takes place on Tuesday December 1 in the grounds of the hospice in Lostock Lane, Lostock Hall.

Visitors are welcome from 5.30pm, when they will be able to view the names of their loved ones being remembered in the special Light Up A Life book. The lights will then be switched on at 6.30pm following a dedication service.

The hospice catering team will be on hard with mince pies and there will be performances from the Charnock Richard Brass Band and the Company of Voices choir. The Mill Café will also be open late until 8pm, serving hot pot suppers.

Light Up A Life is one of the hospice’s most precious and meaningful events, set up soon after St Catherine’s opened its doors in 1985.

It offers the chance to remember those who have died with a light in the beautiful grounds of St Catherine’s Park. They shine out brightly over Christmas and into the New Year, as a symbol of the warmth and love of those people being remembered.

Dedications are welcome in memory of anyone, not only those who have experienced the specialised care of St Catherine’s over the past 30 years.

Bernadette Baxter, who has worked at the hospice since it opened 30 years ago, will be there on the night showing people their entries in the Light Up A Life book.

She said: “Light Up A Life is one of the most meaningful events in the hospice’s year, and also one of our longest-standing.

“It offers the chance for people to come together to remember loved ones who we’ll be missing over the festivities and to celebrate the special people they were.

“Often people have had a connection with St Catherine’s and it is always lovely to see those friends and relatives again. We hope that being involved brings some comfort at what can be a very difficult time of year.”

Dedications can be made online here or by calling 01772 629171. They are still welcome after the switch-on has taken place, although if people would like to see their loved one’s name in the book on December 1 the hospice requires their dedication by Friday November 27 to ensure it can be added in time.

Advance booking is advised for The Mill. To reserve a table for before or after the switch-on, call 01772 695277 or email themill@stcatherinespark.co.uk.
