Patient passes on comfort and warmth to future patients

Former patient, Eileen Metcalf, appreciated the comfort and warmth offered by the small quilt placed on her bed so much that she wanted to make sure future patients would have one as well.The quilt provided extra warmth for cold feet without excessive weight and was exactly the right size to cover her legs when sitting out of bed. She did, however, also notice that the quilt had, in her words, “seen better days”.

As the member of a quilting group the ‘Bears Paw Quilters, Saturday Group’ and realising that her failing health meant that she was unlikely to return to quilting, she donated all her materials and equipment to the group with the specific remit “to make new quilts for the Hospice”. The group rose admirably to the challenge and contacted the Hospice to gain information about the size and colours of quilt needed. Armed with the information they ‘set to’ and produced forty five beautiful, vibrant quilts that bring warmth and cheer to the patients in the Hospice.
The creative and prolific group have also made and donated quilts and cushions for sale in the Hospice Reception Shop. Sadly, Eileen died in January but the new quilts are lasting testimony to her generosity and thoughtfulness.
