‘It will be an honour to have our group represented on the Cornerstones artwork’

A community group is proud to be part of an exclusive membership scheme with St Catherine’s Hospice, supporting the sustainability of the charity now and in the future.

The Eccleston Lodge of the Chorley and Leyland Group of Freemasons will feature on the commemorative Cornerstones artwork in The Mill café, which is located in the hospice grounds and raises vital funds for the cause. Cornerstones members pledge a donation for their chosen name to be included in this special piece of history, recognising their long-term support for St Catherine’s and The Mill.

John Anderson, Eccleston Lodge 7754 Charity Steward, said: “As a group we have fundraised and volunteered for St Catherine’s in many ways over the years, and when I heard about the Cornerstones initiative I felt the members would wish to be involved in it. I spoke to everyone who agreed it would be a fitting project to sponsor and contribute towards.

“We raised money for the Cornerstones donation through raffles and social events, attended by lodge members, partners, friends and family.

“One of the main aims of all Freemasons lodges is charity, and my role involves raising and dispersing donations to charities on behalf of the members. St Catherine’s in particular is very close to my heart as when my dear wife became ill with cancer, St Catherine’s gave us so much help, support and care during the bad times.”

John added: “Chorley and Leyland Group have in the past few years supplied marshals for the Moonlight and Memories Walk among other events, and I often pop into The Mill with friends and family for a coffee or Sunday breakfast.

“It will be an honour to have our Lodge represented on the Cornerstones artwork among with the other names and sponsors for all to see, in support of this much-needed and deserved charity. It gives us great pleasure that our efforts in raising money go to worthwhile causes like St Catherine’s, knowing it will be gratefully received and faithfully used to help local people.”

• Anyone is welcome to become a Cornerstones member – individually or as a group – and can chose their own name, a family name, or the name of a loved one, community group or business to be engraved on the artwork.The final phase of the Cornerstones initiative is underway and the last part of the artwork will be installed later this year. There are limited spaces available, and there is a suggested minimum donation of £250 for a name to be engraved in the commemorative feature.
