Introducing our new Director of Nursing, Governance & Allied Health Professionals

Tracy Earley began her nursing career in the mid-80s, qualifying as both an adult and children’s nurse. She’s worked in Northampton, Edinburgh, Leicester, Nottingham, and for the past two decades, Central Lancashire.

In Nottingham, she helped establish a retrieval service for critically ill children by partnering with the ambulance service and RAF. In Sea King helicopters, she was part of a team who would transport children from as far as Scotland and London to receive paediatric intensive care, and later, helped set up a similar service in Leicester.

Later, Tracy’s focus shifted to adult care, and she became a consultant nurse for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (LTHFT) across Chorley and Preston hospitals; one of only three consultant nurses in the country specialising in nutrition and intestinal failure. Even now in her new role, Tracy continues to provide specialist care one afternoon a week for LTHTR.

So, why the move to become the Director of St Catherine’s Hospice? Over the past 20 years at LTHTR, Tracy had the privilege of seeing many of her patients get exceptional care at the hospice. Visiting her patients weekly in the in-patient unit meant she developed a strong professional relationship with the hospice team and felt a deep connection to the patient population. When the opportunity arose, Tracy just had to go for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and was thrilled to be appointed as the new Director.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working alongside Jimmy for the past few months, and I must say, we all have a big soft spot for him. He will be sorely missed. The handover period has been fantastic, and I’m truly enjoying stepping into the new role.”
