Grandson to take on Great North Run in memory of granddad

A grandson will be taking part in the Great North Run in memory of his beloved granddad who was cared for by St Catherine’s Hospice.
Andrew Crossley, from Penwortham, wanted to raise money to support the hospice after witnessing first-hand the specialised care staff provide.

Andrew said: “St Catherine’s Hospice is my chosen charity as a few years ago they helped ease the pain and passing of my granddad in his final days.
“The work and commitment I saw the volunteers and staff put into caring for my grandad was heart-warming.”
Andrew, a loyalty agent at BT, is taking part in the Great North Run for the second year running, and this year hopes to beat his time of 2 hours 14 minutes.
He added: “This year I’ve set myself a goal of finishing in less than two hours and any support and donations I receive will help motivate me in reaching this goal.
“I haven’t set a minimum target so every donation, great or small, will be greatly appreciated.
“I know my nana would be delighted with however much I raise – so people get the chance to make a lovely 83 year old lady smile too!
“I really can’t wait to run again!”
Funds raised from the gruelling half marathon run will help St Catherine’s Hospice to continue offering specialised palliative and end of life care to people who are living with conditions that can be treated but not cured.
